Stop the Bulge: The Scary Similarity Between Weak Pelvic Floor Muscles and Eye Squeezy Toys
Have you played with one of these stress relief toys with bug eyes that POP out when you squeeze hard? So scary looking while so darn satisfying.
What if I told you that your weak pelvic floor muscles can cause a similar bulging effect? This effect can lead to a common pelvic floor dysfunction called pelvic organ prolapse, a condition where the organs such as your bladder, bowels, and uterus slip out of place and drop down through the vagina.
Studies show that up to 50% of women will experience pelvic organ prolapse in their lifetime, and the risk increases with age- starting from the 20s!!
This condition can cause discomfort, pain, pressure, and difficulty with daily activities such as using the bathroom, standing, walking, hiking, running, traveling, working, and exercising.
Just like over-squeezing an eye squeeze toy can cause it to bulge and lose its shape, excessive straining on weak pelvic floor muscles can cause them to bulge and protrude. It's important to consult a pelvic health specialist in your area to assess and learn the right techniques to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles to prevent this scary and common condition, just as you would use an eye squeeze toy in moderation to avoid damaging it.
