What is Pelvic Health PT?
Pelvic floor physical therapy (PFPT) is a specialized field of physical therapy that focuses specifically on the muscles, bones, and joints of the pelvis and the related structures such as bladder, bowel, and intestines.
Physical therapists that specialize in pelvic floor are highly skilled in treating a variety of problems that impact the pelvic area, such as diastasis recti/abdominal separation, core weakness, pelvic pain, pain with intercourse, urinary/bowel/gas leakage, constipation, and a wide array of intestinal dysfunctions such as IBS, diverticulitis, interstitial cystitis, abdominal bloating, etc.
PFPTs use a combination of exercises, manual therapy, dietary advice, and habit-building to help patients recover from injuries and improve their overall pelvic health function. With their deep understanding of the human body and how it works, pelvic floor physical therapists enable people to take charge of their own health and well-being and achieve maximum performance in their everyday lives.
